Dick Van Dyke earns historic Daytime Emmy nomination at age 98
Dick Van Dyke, the legendary actor known for his roles in classic comedies such as “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” has made history by receiving a Daytime Emmy nomination at the age of 98. Van Dyke was recognized for his role as amnesiac Timothy Robicheaux on Peacock’s “Days of Our Lives” and is now the oldest nominee in Daytime Emmy history.
The actor has previously won four Primetime Emmys, including three in the 1960s for his work on “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” Van Dyke is up against Australian actor Guy Pearce of Amazon Freevee’s “Neighbours” in the guest performer category.
In addition to Van Dyke’s nomination, singer and actress Selena Gomez has also received a Daytime Emmy nod for her culinary series “Selena + Chef: Home for the Holidays.” Gomez will be competing in the culinary series category alongside Food Network’s “Valerie’s Home Cooking,” hosted by actor Valerie Bertinelli.
Meanwhile, CBS has announced that “The Talk” will be ending after its 15th season later this year. The show’s hosts, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell, and Sheryl Underwood, were nominated for daytime talk series host.
The lead actress nominees for this year’s Daytime Emmys include Tamara Braun of “Days of Our Lives,” Finola Hughes and Cynthia Watros of “General Hospital,” Katherine Kelly Lang and Annika Noelle of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and Michelle Stafford of “The Young and the Restless.” On the other hand, the lead actor nominees are Eric Braeden of “The Young and the Restless,” Scott Clifton, Thorsten Kaye, and John McCook of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and Eric Martsolf of “Days of Our Lives.”
The Daytime Emmys are set to be presented on June 7 in Los Angeles and will air live on CBS. The awards show is returning to its usual schedule after being postponed until last December due to strikes by Hollywood actors and writers. The hosts and Lifetime Achievement honorees for the event will be announced at a later date.
